The start of a new year can act as a catalyst to check that marketing plans are still on track. That also includes reviewing gaps in market information/knowledge, as well as recent industry and competitor activity. From experience, formalising this process facilitates internal discussion, whilst helping to ensure that teams are aligned. It also stimulates idea generation, potentially putting your business ahead.
Questions to consider in a market information review include:
- Where do your products/services currently sit in your marketplace? Where do you want them to be?
- Have you identified areas of competitive improvement or innovation? How does this then feed into your marketing planning/activity?
- How do your customers/prospects perceive your business? Has their buying criteria/purchase decision making changed? Do you need to adapt to differentiate?
This might seem like a lot of questions, although in reality, it is part of a streamlined process of information discovery.
