Cast Your Vote For Peru Trek In Aid Of Parkinson's UK
Lorraine Davidson, who runs Freelance Marketing, has entered a competition to win a potential £10,000 for her chosen Charity, Parkinson's UK, and would like to invite you to help her achieve as many votes as possible.
Lorraine has just returned from a week long trip to the Andes, in aid of Parkinson’s UK, spurred on by the illness of a close friend. The trek involved ascending to nearly 15,000 feet and camping out at high altitude, with a relatively short period of time to acclimatise, or to recover from jet lag following the 8000 mile outbound journey.
Lorraine decided to raise money for research into the condition having witnessed first hand the impact that it can have. Around one in every 500 people actually has Parkinson’s, which is a progressive neurological condition associated with loss of nerve cells in the brain, although the precise cause is yet unknown. There is also currently no cure, with symptoms differing for each person, but mainly resulting in tremor and slowness of movement. Whilst Lorraine funded the costs of the trip herself, all sponsorship money has gone directly to Parkinson’s UK, with £1500 having been raised to date through donations and events.
This competition represents a further opportunity to obtain funding for Parkinson's, although there will be tough competition. It is open to all individuals in the UK engaging in an outdoor challenge in 2015 to raise money for Charity and the prize fund of £10,000 will be won by the shortlisted entrant with the most public votes. Closing date for stage one is September 7th, 2015.
